Elias Ure is a composer and musician based in Los Angeles, California. He's a recent graduate of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts '21), where he earned his BFA in Composition from the Herb Alpert School of Music, with an emphasis in film scoring. He was fortunate to study privately with Karen Tanaka (composition) and Emi Tamura (piano). His musical journey began at age eight, taking weekly lessons with renowned jazz drummer Jason Harnell. He remains an important mentor to him, someone who has significantly shaped Elias both musically and personally. Elias graduated in 2017 from Charter High School of the Arts — Multimedia and Performing (CHAMPS) in Van Nuys, California. The Music Academy at CHAMPS laid the essential groundwork for his musical aspirations and provided a seamless transition to college, where he immersed himself in theory, composition, film studies, and collaboration with Character/Experimental Animation filmmakers. Elias had the opportunity to score student short films and participate in the Character Animation department's Friday night talks, gaining insight into the filmmaking process. He also received valuable industry knowledge and perspectives from visiting film composers, and has continued to strengthen his skills. Storytelling lies at the heart of his work, as his father is a veteran feature animation story artist. He grew up in a creative home filled with an eclectic mix of music and film. Elias naturally gravitated toward film scoring, as it beautifully melds these artistic elements, recognizing that music is storytelling.
